Collection: Wood Engravings

Wood engraving is a form of relief printing, meaning the areas intended to stay white are carefully cut away with specialist tools known as 'gravers'. Wood engraving lends itself to finely detailed work and as a result the prints tend to be smaller than some other print mediums. Some of the best woods for engraving are considered to be Boxwood, Lemonwood and Holly. Engravings are printed by hand using either a traditional press or with a wooden burnisher or glass baren. All prints are limited editions.
