Sugar lift horse skeleton etching

'Equus' is a limited edition sugar lift aquatint etching. Printed onto Somerset Satin 250gsm acid free etching paper, with Cranfield Caligo safe wash oil-based ink. Signed and numbered on the front. This is a limited edition of 25 prints.

Sugar lift etching involves first painting the design onto the metal plate in a sugary substance. Once dry this is covered with a 'hard ground'. The plate can then be placed in hot water and where the sugary substance was applied the ground will come away to reveal the plate below. The plate is then emersed traditionally in acid, but in my case I use the less dangerous alternative of copper sulphate, in order to etch the image into the metal.

As prints are made individually by hand, please expect slight variation in detail and ink density, which makes every print unique.
